Vemulawada Temple To Go Digital For Payments Soon
The Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada will soon introduce digital payments for various services and rituals. QR scanners and POS machines will be installed, with the system initially being tested at the protocol office.
The Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple authorities in Vemulawada have decided to introduce digital payment facilities for various services and rituals offered at the shrine to make transactions more convenient for devotees.
Temple sources said QR code scanners and point-of-sale (POS) machines would be installed as part of the new system.
The process is under way and discussions are being held with bankers. The digital payment facility has initially been introduced on an experimental basis at the protocol office and will be extended to other departments after a week if the trial is successful.
Except for donations from philanthropists, most transactions at the temple are currently carried out in cash. The shrine earns around `100 crore a year through various services, including main darshan bookings, kodemokku bookings, guest house rentals and laddu prasadam sales.
Of the various services, kodemokku generates the highest revenue at around `18 crore a year, followed by guest house rentals, which bring in `3 crore to `4 crore.
The absence of a digital payment facility has often forced devotees to look for ATM centres to make cash payments. Temple executive officer L. Rama Devi initiated steps to introduce the digital payment services.
