Varsities Must Rethink Quality Of Education: Governor

Hyderabad: To make India a developed nation by 2047, universities must rethink their approach to education, said Telangana Governor Sri Jishnu Dev Varma on Friday. He was speaking at a national conference hosted by MNR University and organised by the Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI).
Calling higher education the backbone of “Viksit Bharat,” the Governor said India already has over 1,100 universities and nearly 35 million students, but scale alone won’t suffice. “We need innovation, global competitiveness and value-based education,” he said, stressing five focus areas: skills, equity, research, values and internationalisation.
TSCHE chairman Prof. V. Balakista Reddy said the next two decades would define India’s global position. “Universities must focus on affordability, quality and innovation,” he said.
EPSI president Dr M. R. Jayaram said the society had submitted a White Paper to the Union government on higher education reforms. MNR chancellor Manthena Ravi Varma urged institutions to prioritise access for women and marginalised communities.
The conference featured sessions on global competitiveness and institutional empowerment, with participation from vice-chancellors and academic leaders across India.
