Uttam Spends Birthday Inspecting Irrigation Projects; Assuring Irrigation Facility to Tail-End Areas
During the inspection, the minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring irrigation facility to every acre in tail-end regions.

Nalgonda: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday reviewed irrigation works in Suryapet district, focusing on projects aimed at providing water to tail-end ayacut areas, as he marked his birthday. Large numbers of people gathered during his visit and conveyed birthday wishes.
During the inspection, the minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring irrigation facility to every acre in tail-end regions.
Accompanied by officials, he inspected the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme at Bugga Madhavaram in Chintalapalem mandal, taken up at a cost of ₹394 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, he said it was a painful paradox that generations of farming families in Suryapet district lived within sight of the Krishna river, yet their fields lacked proper irrigation facilities. He said irrigation development must reach the most disadvantaged farmers and no village should be denied river water merely because it lies at the tail end of the canal network. While the Nagarjunasagar Project remains the irrigation lifeline, supplementary projects such as the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme are essential to bridge gaps and ensure equitable water distribution.
He directed officials to expedite completion of lift irrigation schemes in the district while maintaining quality standards.
He said the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme was designed to carry Krishna waters to tail-end areas of irrigation facing long-standing shortages. The project aims to provide irrigation to about 14,000 acres across multiple mandals, including areas in Mellachervu, Huzurnagar, Chintalapalem, Kodad and Chilukuru.
The scheme is also expected to improve water availability in irrigation tanks and raise groundwater levels in several villages.
He said the greatest birthday gift for the region would be the completion of a project that could finally bring assured irrigation to lands of the farmers.
District collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar, superintendent of police K. Narasimha and irrigation superintending engineer Nagabhushanam were present.
