Uttam Meets Philippines Agri Minister, Proposes to Export TG Paddy
Francisco, while appreciated the high quality of rice from Telangana also expressed interest in expanding the scope of rice and paddy exports from Telangana to the Philippines

Hyderabad: Telangana, which is already exporting rice to the Philippines, has proposed to export paddy too. The proposal was made by civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar during his meeting with the Southeast Asian country’s agriculture minister Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr in Delhi on Wednesday.
Francisco, while appreciated the high quality of rice from Telangana also expressed interest in expanding the scope of rice and paddy exports from Telangana to the Philippines. Laurel Jr indicated that the country’s total requirement for rice and paddy might be around two million tonnes in the upcoming year.
In response,Uttam Kumar Reddy thanked Laurel Jr for taking the time to meet and expressed gratitude for the recognition of Telangana’s rice quality. He assured full cooperation and commitment to consolidating and expanding the trade relationship between Telangana and the Philippines. Additionally, Uttam Kumar Reddy extended an invitation for Laurel Jr to visit Telangana later this year, which was accepted.
Laurel Jr showed a keen interest in importing paddy from Telangana. Commissioner of civil supplies D.S. Chauhan suggested the potential export of Telangana’s Sona (RNR 15048) rice variety, which Laurel Jr also found interesting. Furthermore, Laurel Jr inquired about the possibility of importing maize from Telangana.
