Uttam Flags Off Haj Pilgrims
Minister urges prayers for peace, unity, and justice at Haj House send-off event

Hyderabad: Irrigation and civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to secularism and the protection of minority rights while addressing a gathering at Haj House. The occasion marked the flagging off of vehicles carrying Haj pilgrims embarking on their sacred journey to Mecca.
The minister emphasised that no nation can truly progress without ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens. He warned against the growing threat of communalism in India, stressing that the nation’s secular fabric must be safeguarded now more than ever. “Secularism is not merely a political slogan but a core value that defines India’s identity,” he said.
Appealing to the pilgrims, Uttam Kumar Reddy urged them to pray for the prosperity, peace and unity of the country. “As you embark on this sacred journey, carry with you the hopes of millions. Pray for communal harmony, economic progress and social justice, not just for yourselves but for every Indian,” he urged.
The event was attended by Telangana Haj Committee chairman Syed Afzal Biyabani, Waqf Board chairman Azmattullah Husseini and prominent religious and community leaders.
