Uttam: Congress Must Prove Its Strength in Municipal Polls

The Nizamabad Parliamentary Constituency review meeting was held at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Nizamabad: Irrigation Minister and Nizamabad parliamentary constituency in-charge N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday said the Congress must prove its strength in the upcoming municipal elections by winning a majority of seats across districts. He said the party had performed better in the recent sarpanch elections compared to the Assembly and Parliament polls, and the same momentum should be carried forward into the municipal elections.

The Nizamabad Parliamentary Constituency review meeting was held at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, government advisers P. Sudarshan Reddy and Mohammad Ali Shabbir, former ministers Mandava Venkateshwar Rao and Jeevan Reddy, former MLC D. Rajeshwer Rao, and other leaders attended the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress had secured only a limited number of seats in the previous municipal elections and stressed the need for coordinated efforts this time. He said all leaders must treat the municipal polls as a prestigious challenge and work with discipline, adding that negligence would not be tolerated.

Strategies for the upcoming municipal and corporation elections were discussed at the meeting. Congress leaders said the party had received a strong mandate in the sarpanch elections, winning more than 70 per cent of the seats. They called for a focused campaign to replicate that success in the municipal polls and aim for a clean sweep in the district. The leaders also accused the BJP of indulging in politics in the name of religion and said efforts must be made to counter the strategies of both the BJP and the BRS.
