US-Based Protolabs' GCC in Hyderabad Will Boost City's Engineering Prowess: Sridhar Babu

The GCC will provide employment to around 200 to 300 employees soon, focusing on local engineering hires

Hyderabad: IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu announced that US-based digital manufacturing giant Protolabs would set up its global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad and said that this move strengthened the city's role as a top hub for global tech and engineering investments. Protolabs aims to start operations this month. The GCC will provide employment to around 200 to 300 employees soon, focusing on local engineering hires. It targets advanced engineering, digital manufacturing, and product development.
A Protolabs delegation met the minister on Thursday and discussed its India entry and plans to set up GCC. The team included chief financial officer Dan Schumacher, chief human resources officer Agnes Semington, chief technology and AI officer Marc Kermisch, and India managing director Ashish Sharma. State government IT adviser Saikrishna participated in the meeting
The minister hailed Hyderabad's rise as a prime spot for next-gen GCCs. He cited its skilled engineers, strong digital set-up, supportive policies, and growing manufacturing base. "We welcome Protolabs to Hyderabad and India," he said and added that "Telangana offers a ready ecosystem for design, engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing."
"This will boost Hyderabad's high-value manufacturing edge," Sridhar Babu added. He noted benefits for start-ups and MSMEs through rapid prototyping and low-volume production. Hyderabad blended software, engineering, and manufacturing seamlessly. Such investments create jobs and fuel innovation-driven growth, the minstger said.
Founded in 1999, Protolabs leads in digital manufacturing across North America and Europe. It serves over 3 lakh customers, and produced over 750 million parts, and aids 95 per cent of Fortune 100 firms across diverse industry verticals.
The GCC by Protolabs fits Telangana's push for deep tech and advanced industries, Sridhar Babu said. "We build industry-friendly spaces for jobs, innovation, and growth."
