Urea Production Restored at RFCL After 46 Days
RFCL restarts now at 70% capacity after a 46-day repair shutdown

Adilabad: The Ramagundam Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) resumed urea production at its Peddapalli plant on Thursday at 5.30 am, coinciding with Dasara, after a 46-day shutdown for repairs. Production had been halted on August 14.
Currently, the plant is producing only about 70 per cent of its full capacity of 3,850 metric tons per day, using the ‘primary reformer’ after machinery repairs. National Fertilisers Limited chairman and managing director U. Saravanan reportedly took serious note of the frequent breakdowns, especially during peak agricultural demand, and coordinated with experts and workers to restore operations.
The production halt had severely impacted Telangana, which was supposed to receive 2.5 lakh metric tons of urea for the kharif season but faced shortages due to the closure. Farmers have now pinned hopes on uninterrupted supply for the rabi season, provided the plant runs smoothly without further glitches.
RFCL Mazdoor Union president Ambati Naresh Yadav said the restoration of production will certainly help Telangana farmers. The 46-day closure is estimated to have caused a production loss of 1.77 lakh metric tons of urea, worth around Rs 120 crore.
Meanwhile, reports suggest agriculture minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao has asked Peddapalli district officials to ensure Telangana receives its share of urea well in advance for rabi. However, the final allocation of RFCL’s urea output is determined by the Union Ministry of Fertilisers and Chemicals.
