Urban Forest Park To Offer Green Space For Husnabad Residents

The park is being developed across 80 acres of hillocks in the Akunur forest block of Husnabad mandal at a cost of Rs 3 crore.

Karimnagar:Residents of Husnabad will soon have a place to relax and spend time amid nature, with work on the Husnabad Urban Forest Park progressing.

The park is being developed across 80 acres of hillocks in the Akunur forest block of Husnabad mandal at a cost of Rs 3 crore. Though the forest covers around 3,000 acres, the park is being developed in only one portion of it.

Following the initiative of local MLA and transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the forest department is developing the park near Jillellagadda, alongside the Siddipet-Hanamkonda National Highway (NH 365B), about 4 km from Husnabad town.

Facilities being developed include an entrance, walking track, three gazebos, a lotus pond, yoga centre, trekking route, butterfly garden, raasi vanam, amphitheatre, benches, drinking water facility, toilets and a nursery.

A children’s play area with swings and slides is also being developed. The gazebos, yoga centre and watchtower on the hillocks are expected to be among the park's attractions.

The watchtower is being built on a hill at a height of 1.5 km, from where visitors can view surrounding areas, including Husnabad and Mulkanoor, officials said.

A 3-km trekking route is also being developed. Starting from the yoga centre, it will end at Bayyannagudi and Khila, from where Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud ruled the area.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Husnabad forest range officer Ch. Siddarth Reddy said the park was being developed without disturbing the natural structure of the forest.

Around 8,000 plants of different varieties have been planted to increase greenery at the foothills. A butterfly garden, raasi vanam, karthika vanam and nakshatra vanam are also planned, he said.

Forest section officer Md Sajid Pasha said chain-link fencing was being installed along the roadside to prevent animals and cattle from entering the area. The department plans to inaugurate the park in January next year after completing the works.
