UoH, NIN Sign 5-Year Nutrition Pact

Under the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate on joint research projects, doctoral programmes, faculty exchange, training initiatives and academic events, while also creating pathways for student internships and placements.

HYDERABAD: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has entered into a five‑year institutional partnership with the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) to align laboratory research more closely with public health priorities, at a time when nutrition‑related disorders are rising across age groups.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate on joint research projects, doctoral programmes, faculty exchange, training initiatives and academic events, while also creating pathways for student internships and placements.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday by UoH registrar Dr Devesh Nigam and NIN director Dr Bharati Kulkarni, in the presence of Vice‑Chancellor Prof B.J. Rao.

Dr Kulkarni noted that the institute’s century‑long role in shaping India’s nutrition policies had demonstrated the impact of linking research with education and implementation. This partnership has the scale to make a difference not just locally, but across the country and the global south,” she said.

Prof. Rao said the university was keen to explore mobile food and nutrition testing laboratories that could operate at the community level.

Dr Ramesh K. Mishra, dean of the School of Medical Sciences at UoH, added that the combined expertise of the two institutions opened doors to new research areas. There is real scope to study how nutrition influences cognition, and we are keen to take this forward through focused discussions and joint forums, he said.

Officials confirmed that the partnership will now move into its implementation phase, with joint programmes and research calls expected to follow.
