Unwanted C-Sections Spark Concerns
As summer temperatures rise, Minister Rajanarsimha asked hospitals to ensure that pregnant women, new mothers and children remain safe and comfortable

Hyderabad: Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha has directed officials to take strict action against private hospitals that are performing unnecessary C-section deliveries without valid medical reasons. He noted that such practices must be curbed through strong monitoring and auditing systems.
The minister made these remarks during a review meeting held at the Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) Office. He said the number of normal deliveries in government hospitals should be increased and pregnant women and their families should be educated about the benefits of natural delivery and the risks associated with unnecessary C-sections. This awareness must begin right from the time of antenatal check-ups.
To support this, he advised that nurses in government hospitals be trained. He also instructed officials to improve the facilities at maternal and child health centers and encourage expectant mothers to opt for deliveries in government hospitals.
As summer temperatures rise, the minister asked hospitals to ensure that pregnant women, new mothers and children remain safe and comfortable. He ordered the installation of fans, coolers and working air conditioners in required wards.
Rajanarsimha also reviewed the status of vacant posts in government hospitals. Officials informed him that over 8,000 posts were filled last year and recruitment for another 6,200 is underway. These include doctors, nurses, lab technicians, health assistants and AYUSH medical officers.
He directed that the results of recently completed written exams be released quickly and that the recruitment process be completed within a month. He also called for timely promotions for healthcare staff and asked officials to submit proposals for filling vacancies that arise after promotions.
