Union Minister Says Development Works To Change Karimnagar’s Profile

Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar said Karimnagar town would undergo major changes with development works to be taken up under various Central government schemes.

He said model roads, skywalks, foot overbridges, drains and junctions would be developed within the corporation limits. About 50 km of 40-foot model roads would be laid at a cost of `630 crore, he said.

Foot overbridges would be developed at the district court, civil hospital and Geeta Bhavan. A skywalk would be developed at the district headquarters bus stand on the lines of the one at Uppal in Hyderabad, he said.

Sanjay Kumar, along with Karimnagar Mayor Kolagani Srinivas, laid the foundation for CC roads and drainage pipelines at Mankammathota in the 45th division on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, he assured residents of newly merged areas of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation that roads and drainage facilities would be developed in their localities.

He said efforts were being made to develop Karimnagar as a model town in both Telugu states. During the past seven years, Rs 22,000 crore had been spent on the development of Karimnagar town and the Karimnagar parliamentary constituency, he said.

He said the aim was to develop the town on all fronts. As part of this, `50 crore had been sanctioned under UIFD funds and another `30 crore would also be sanctioned, he said.

Another `840 crore had been sanctioned under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) after Karimnagar was included in the scheme, he said.
