Kishan Reddy Slams Congress on Broken Pledges

In an open letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi, the Union Coal Minister recalled that during the Telangana Assembly election campaign in 2023, she unveiled the Congress party's election manifesto titled Abhayahastam, but also personally assured the people of the state that the six guarantees would be implemented immediately upon the Congress party coming to power.

Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy, in an open letter, questioned Congress leader Sonia Gandhi over her recent appreciation of the Revanth Reddy-led government's two-year performance and the Telangana Rising-2047 vision document, while highlighting the Congress' unfulfilled election promises from the 2023 manifesto.

Reddy referred to reports of Sonia Gandhi's commendation during Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's Delhi visit, where he presented the vision document. He contrasted this with her September 17, 2023, public rally at Tukkuguda near Hyderabad, where she unveiled the manifesto alongside Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, assuring immediate implementation of the guarantees upon coming to power.

“The congratulations conveyed to Revanth Reddy on completing two years in power give the impression that either you are unaware of the ground reality about the implementation of the six guarantees, or that no serious attempt has been made to assess whether the promises made to the people have been fulfilled at all,” Kishan Reddy said.

He accused the government of misleading the public with new vision documents while ignoring core commitments to farmers, women, jobless youth, students, Dalits, tribals, and backward classes. Kishan Reddy warned that the "Abhaya Hastham" (hand of assurance) might become a "Bhasmasura Hasta" (hand of destruction), driven by public anger in future elections.

Under the guise of development, the government has attempted to introduce a new narrative through a vision document, while the earlier guarantees remain unaddressed, he said.

Kishan Reddy asked whether Sonia Gandhi had reviewed the status of the six guarantees after Revanth Reddy’s two years in office, and whether she had discussed their implementation during the Chief Minister's recent meeting.

“Is the Congress abandoning its '420 promises,' dismissing them as unfulfilled or burying them at Gandhi Bhavan?” Kishan Reddy asked.

He also cited the 'Abhaya Hastham' guarantees, including Rs 2,500 monthly aid to women and 75 percent reservation for locals in private jobs.
