Two Migrant Workers From Telangana Stabbed to Death in Dubai

Fight at Dubai bakery leads to tragic deaths of Premsagar and Srinivas

Nizamabad, Hyderabad: Two workers from Telangana, Astapu Premsagar, 41, from Nirmal and Sargam Srinivas from Dharmapuri in Jagtial district, were stabbed to death by a Pakistani national in Dubai reportedly during a quarrel over the Wakf Amendment Act.

Two other workers from Telangana were injured in the incident which occurred last Friday and came to light late on Tuesday.

The accused and victims were employees of Modern Bakery in Dubai. Degam Sagar of Jandagally in Armoor town of Nizamabad district was among the injured and is recovering in a hospital.

Reportedly, work pressure coupled with communal hatred led to clash. Most workers at the plant belong to Telangana, while others hail from Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The bakery management reportedly kept the incident a secret and warned migrant workers not to reveal the incident. News of the incident, however, leaked out.

The Dubai police took into custody the attacker, who was yet to be identified, and four other Pakistan nationals. The family members of Premsagar, the victim, said that they received call from his colleagues in Dubai about the incident. “He (Premsagar) tried to escape from the knife attack, but fell to the floor. The Pakistan national indiscriminately stabbed him”, they said.

Premsagar and Srinivas died while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Dubai. The condition of injured persons is stable. The family members of Armoor resident Sagar said that he had gone to Dubai eight years ago. “We received a phone call from Dubai. Sagar is out of danger,” a family member told Deccan Chronicle, adding that the victim had been attacked with a knife.

Nirmal MLA Alleti Maheshwar Reddy wrote a letter to Telangana’s Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari about the incident, who approached the Indian Consulate in Dubai to to expedite the process of repatriating the bodies of Premsagar and Srinivas to India.

Union minister G. Kishan Reddy and minister of state Bandi Sanjay said they spoke with external affairs minister S. Jaishankar and requested him to ensure that the bodies of the deceased were sent home quickly.
