Two Ganja Peddlers Arrested; 88.5 kg Ganja Seized

Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the task force and Annapureddypalli police on Thursday arrested two persons at Venkapuram crossroad in Khammam district and seized 88.5 kilograms of ganja from their possession. Police arrested Muhammad Ramshad Cheriyandi alias Abdul Rasheed and Sriraj kunjuveetil from Kerala. Financier Harshad T.C., receiver Sajjeed and seller Kishore were on lam. Police said they stopped a vehicle on credible information and found 88.59 kilograms of ganja worth ₹ 44.2 lakh was being illegally transporting in it by the two accused. They allegedly confessed that they had the ganja from a person in Andhra-Odisha border and were transporting it to Kerala to hand over to the receiver. A police team was formed to arrest the absconding accused.
Youth Dies in Road Mishap at DLF
Hyderabad: A 22-year-old man who was struck by an unidentified vehicle at a coconut vendor at DLF Gate 1 in Gachibowli, succumbed to his injuries at the Gandhi Hospital on Thursday, police said. Police said the victim, Rampa Jitanya, a private company employee from JV Colony, Gachibowli, was first taken to a private hospital and later moved to Gandhi Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
According to the complaint filed by his father-in-law Pasupuleti Narasimha Murthy, Jitanya was found injured at the spot after being hit by an unidentified vehicle. Murthy requested the police to identify the hit-and-run vehicle and take action against the driver. Police registered a case and said they had commenced investigations.
Court extends Mahbub Alam's bail petition till June 22
Hyderabad: Mujahid Alam Khan, prime accused in the advocate Khaja Moizuddin murder case, has applied for bail in the Nampally civil courts, sources said. His counsel on Thursday filed a bail petition citing health grounds. The court has schedule hearing of the plea on June 22, sources said.
EAGLE Force Seizes 500 Kg Ganja Worth ₹2.5 Crore
Hyderabad: The EAGLE Force said its team chased a gang for over 80 kilometres, intercepted a gang smuggling ganja and seized 500 kg of the contraband worth Rs.2.5 crore that was being transported into Telangana from Odisha. According to a statement, the chase was led by EAGLE Force sub-inspector K. Ravi Prasad.
The team followed a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) from Balimela to Jeypore on the intervening night of June 17 and 18, and intercepted the vehicle in a jungle stretch. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape, taking advantage of hilly terrain and poor visibility.The personnel seized the MUV and handed it over to the Koraput police of Odisha early on Thursday, according to EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya.
He said the ganja was packed in 115 packets — 90 of them weighing 5 kg each and 25 packets with 2 kg of the contraband, Shandilya said. It was a high-risk operation and the Odisha police appreciated the Eagle Force team’s action, he said. The vehicle was registered in the name of Amir Alli Khan of Gandhinagar, Nuasahi, Nabarangpur district, Odisha.
In a similar daring operation in 2024, the EAGLE Force had followed the accused up to Ranchi and seized 500 kgs of ganja. That case was handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau.
Swift Response by ERSS Saves Distressed Woman’s Life Within 15 Minutes
Hyderabad: The Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) here facilitated the rescue of a woman who attempted to take her life in Jagtial district through prompt coordination under the Dial-112 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). Police said they received a distress call on Dial 112 at 12.23 pm on Thursday regarding a potential suicide attempt by a woman within the of Metpalli police limits in Jagtial district.
The ERSS team immediately alerted the Metpalli station house officer a minute later, at 12.24 pm. The SHO mobilised police personnel to the location. Following this, the woman was traced and rescued within 15 minutes. She was subsequently shifted to the police station, where she was provided with appropriate counselling and support.
Three Arrested in LB Nagar; 51.8 Kg Ganja Worth ₹25.9 Lakh Seized
Hyderabad: LB Nagar special operations team (SOT) and the Abdullapurmet police arrested three persons and seized 51.8 kg of ganja worth about Rs.25.9 lakh that they were transporting from Odisha. Police said they foundtjhe ganja in a vehicle that they had intercepted on the ORR service road at Abdullapurmet on Wednesday evening, after receiving credible information.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found packets of ganja concealed beneath the rear seat. Tolice seized the vehicle, three mobile phones and Rs.2,290 in cash.
Investigations revealed that the accused cultivated ganja in forest areas of Odisha over the past six months. The contraband was meant for delivery to a Hyderabad-based receiver identified as Sagar, who is currently absconding.
According to police, the accused loaded the ganja into the vehicle in Odisha and travelled to Hyderabad on June 15. They stayed on the city outskirts while awaiting further instructions. On June 17, they were allegedly directed to transport the consignment towards Ghatkesar, where it was to be handed over. The vehicle was intercepted before the delivery could take place.
Door-to-Door Visits by BLOs in CURE Areas from June 24 for SIR
Hyderabad: Door to door visits by booth level officers (BLOs) in the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) will commence on June 24, and continue for a month, for the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll. The Voter Helpline number 1950 will be available from 7 am to 9 pm.
During the visits, the BLOs will conduct voter verification and assist citizens in updating and authenticating their electoral records. The BLOs have been authorized to help with enrolment of eligible voters, verification and updation of voter details, corrections in name, address, age, photograph, and other particulars, incorporation of migration-related changes.
People can access voter services through the ECINet app for e-EPIC download, electoral roll search, polling station details and BLO contact information.
The key dates are: Draft electoral Roll: July 31; filing of claims and objections July 31 to August 30; Disposal of claims and objections from July 31 to September 28 and final publication of electoral rolls October 1.
TGSPDCL Additional Assistant Engineer (Operations) Caught in ACB Net
Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday arrested B. Ramakrishna Reddy, additional assistant engineer, operations, IDA Bolaram, for allegedly demanding and accepting 25,000 on Thursday. The demand was made to ensure that the discom would not initiate any action against a driver who had rammed his car into an electrical pole and damaged it on June 12. Following the bribe demand, the driver complained to the ACB which swung into action.
The ACB said it had recovered the amount from Ramakrishna Reddy who was produced before the Additional Special Judge for Trial of SPE & ACB Cases, here. Details of the complainant were withheld for security reasons, the ACB said.
Autorickshaw Driver Critically Injured While Trying to Save Woman Farmer
Hyderabad:An autorickshaw driver who tried to save a woman farmer was critically injured when he tried to apply brakes suddenly. on the Kamareddy-Ellareddy main road on the outskirts of Koyya Gundu Thanda Thursday morning. The vehicle overturned thrice and hit the woman farmer who escaped with minor injuries.
Police said the farmer, Ramavat Sunitha was crossing the road on her way home after completing her farm work when the incident occurred. Police said the driver, M. Satish, was speeding and applied brakes to avoid hitting Sunitha. The vehicle overturned, and left him injured. Police rushed to the spot on receiving information and sent the injured to the Kamareddy Government Hospital.
Man Dies Days After Losing His Mother
Hyderabad: A man who was said to be in deep agony after his mother passed away last week, was found dead at his house, Nagarkurnool police said on Thursday. According to the police, Kongari Narsamma, 83, of Telakapalle mandal died of natural causes on June 10. Her only son, Kongari Venkatramulu, 53, reportedly went into deep shock, and confined himself to his house where he was found dead. His neighbours informed the police and said that they suspected he might have died of cardiac arrest. It was suspected that he was unable to pay to complete her death rites. Venkatramulu is survived by his wife and three daughters. Nagarkurnool police booked a case of death under suspicious circumstances and commenced investigations.
