Tummala Scoffs at BRS Campaign Against Urea App

Agriculture minister says digital system will ensure fair and transparent distribution

Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Monday hit back at the BRS for its campaign against the new mobile app designed to streamline urea distribution, accusing the Opposition of deliberately creating doubts among farmers. He asserted that once fully rolled out, the app would prove to be a success story, much like the Union government’s Kapas Kisan App launched earlier this year.

In a media statement, Tummala said farmers’ hardships stemmed from delays in urea allocations from the Centre. Despite this, the state government managed to supply more urea than last year. “While consumption in the 2024 monsoon season was 9.66 lakh metric tonnes, the Congress government provided 9.79 lakh metric tonnes—an increase of 13,000 tonnes. Although sufficient urea was available, opposition leaders are trying to trigger panic buying by spreading apprehensions,” he noted.

The minister explained that the new app aims to save farmers’ time and ensure transparency. “The app will prevent misuse, eliminate queues, and make sales transparent. Cotton purchases have already been successfully managed through the Kisan Cotton App. This initiative too will succeed, dispelling opposition doubts and ensuring fair urea distribution,” he said.
