Travels Bus Gutted in Fire on Kovvur Flyover

All passengers and staff escape unhurt; short circuit suspected, losses estimated at ₹80 lakh.

Kakinada: All 10 occupants of a private travel bus had a providential escape when it caught fire at Gaman bridge under Kovvur town limits in East Godavari district in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the preliminary information, a short-circuit occurred at the self-motor, followed by sparks and eruption of fire. Police said the bus was on its way to Visakhapatnam from Khammam.

“There were six passengers including a girl child, and two each drivers and cleaners. Driver Bhisham sensed danger and stopped the bus. The crew helped the passengers exit immediately," police said.

The bus was gutted. Fire department personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire. The passengers were taken in another bus to their destinations.
