Transport Dept Intensifies Checks on Commercial Carriers, Guidelines for Sleeper Buses Soon

The department added that instructions had been issued to transport officials in all districts, and eight inspection teams have been formed in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts to enforce compliance.

Hyderabad: The transport department said it had intensified checks on private buses in view of the Sankranti festival rush and penalising vehicles found violating rules. The department has warned vehicle operators against charging exorbitant fares during the high-demand festival period.

On Friday, 31 cases were booked and fines totalling Rs 76,000 were collected for various violations. So far this month, 45 cases have been registered, with total fines amounting to Rs 1.13 lakh.

The department said guidelines for the operation of sleeper buses would be issued shortly. Sleeper buses registered in other states but operating in Telangana will be inspected for violation of rules. During special inspections on Wednesday, 75 cases were registered against private travel buses for violations such as transporting goods, not carrying passenger lists, and not having first-aid boxes.
