Transport Department Cracks Down on RTO Lapses
Strict orders were issued banning agents and middlemen from entering the office.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Transport Department carried out a surprise inspection at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Ibrahimpatnam on Saturday to ensure compliance with rules and improve services for citizens.
Joint transport commissioner (Vigilance & Enforcement) M. Chandrashekhar Goud reviewed driving licence test procedures, service quality, pending applications on the VAHAN portal, and the presence of unauthorised agents on the premises. He directed officials to make driving tests more rigorous, stressing that licences must be issued only to skilled drivers.
“A driving licence is not merely a document; it is an authorisation to operate a vehicle. Negligent testing can directly lead to accidents,” he told officials.
The JTC interacted with applicants and gathered feedback on waiting times, staff conduct and use of the online portal. Staff were instructed to treat applicants courteously and resolve cases within stipulated timeframes.
Strict orders were issued banning agents and middlemen from entering the office. Officials allowing such access would face disciplinary action. Notices on the ban are to be displayed at the entrance and service counters, with citizens advised to use counters directly or the VAHAN/SARATHI portals.
The department reiterated its commitment to transparent and efficient services across Telangana and said surprise inspections of RTOs would continue.
