Traffic Snarls Hit NH-65 at Several Points in Nalgonda

Police swung into action to regulate traffic along the highway

Nalgonda: Traffic came to a standstill at multiple locations on National Highway No. 65 in Nalgonda district on Sunday evening, with vehicles stuck in long queues stretching over a kilometre at several places.

The highway witnessed a heavy rush of vehicles as people who had travelled to their native places to vote in the second phase of gram panchayat elections returned to Hyderabad. In addition, many commuters returning from Vijayawada and other parts of Andhra Pradesh after the weekend holiday added to the congestion.

Major traffic jams were reported at Velminedu, Pedda Kaparthy and Chityal, where road widening works are under way. Vehicles were also moving bumper to bumper at the Korlapahad and Panthangi toll plazas on NH-65. Traffic movement was slow at Choutuppal as well.

Police swung into action to regulate traffic along the highway. Officials said vehicular flow was expected to increase further after 10 p.m.
