Hyderabad: The city traffic police translocated a 30-year-old peltophorum (konda chinta) tree near the Patny junction in Secunderabad as it was obstructing traffic, north zone ACP-1, traffic, G. Shankar Raju told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday.
The location of the tree was endangering commuters plying between Bata and Patny junctions and making it difficult to pass through. “Several commuters had complained about the obstruction,” Raju said.
“I sought permission from the forest department and the GHMC. With the help of our staff, we translocated the tree to a safe place within the Mahbub College campus,” Raju said.
“It took over five hours of work to move the tree without causing damage to the roots,” the ACP said.
This is one of the three trees that the north zone police translocated to make roads safer. Sources disclosed that north zone traffic police personnel had donated around `70,000 to hire cranes and to pay for other expenses to translocate the three trees.
“During the past 30 days we have safely translocated two other trees to safer places. We have identified four more trees to shift and are waiting for the permission from the authorities,” a source said.
It was stated that the ACP who sought permission to translocate the trees also assured the authorities he and his team would be responsible for their upkeep in their new locations.
After the konda chinta tree was translocated, police observed that traffic congestion on the road between Patny and Bata crossroads had reduced to a great extent and pedestrians were able to use the footpath.
