Traffic Crawls After Heavy Showers

Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed several parts of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Saturday, once again bringing the twin cities to a near standstill. As fresh waterlogging points emerged across neighbourhoods, residents and commuters struggled with flooding, traffic snarls, and property damage.
Afternoon showers in areas like Secunderabad, Madhapur, Kukatpally, Malkajgiri, Ameerpet and parts of the Old City triggered renewed flooding and mobility issues. Persistent waterlogging was reported in A.S. Rao Nagar, Chilkalguda, Chaitanyapuri, and Balapur, with residents in several colonies reporting inundation of homes.
Monsoon Emergency Teams (METs) of HYDRAA were deployed on the ground, pumping out stagnant water from affected areas. Despite their efforts, traffic remained sluggish in several parts of the city, especially in zones still reeling from Friday’s rain-induced chaos. Gachibowli, Madhapur, Parade Grounds, Kothaguda, Dilsukhnagar, Punjagutta and Balamrai witnessed severe congestion, with hundreds of vehicles caught in long queues for hours. By evening, traffic police and civic authorities managed to ease congestion at most major junctions.
“In the morning, most of the water was cleared, but evening showers brought it all back,” said Shabana Fatima, a resident of A.S. Rao Nagar. “There needs to be a permanent solution. Even a brief spell floods our colony.” In Patny Colony, Begumpet, HYDRAA constructed a temporary retaining wall to prevent further water accumulation following extensive flooding earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams were engaged in clearing fallen trees across the city, while traffic police personnel were deployed at key intersections to manage movement in waterlogged zones.
