TPF Seeks Stronger Government Education System, Fee Regulation Panel
The Telangana People’s Front has launched a campaign seeking stronger government schools, increased education spending and a fee regulation commission.
The Telangana People’s Front (TPF) has launched a campaign to create awareness about the need to strengthen the government education system and constitute a fee regulation commission in the state.
The TPF’s core committee members said the ruling governments, irrespective of political party, had neglected education and identified three major issues affecting the state’s education system — poor basic amenities in government schools, high fees in private schools and inadequate government spending on education.
The members were speaking during the TPF’s 12th-day bus yatra, which reached Adilabad on Sunday. They stayed overnight at a government school in Malkapur village in Gudihathnoor mandal and later participated in a round-table meeting in Adilabad town.
The Front is mobilising public support to press the state government to construct Telangana Public Schools and allocate 18 per cent of the state budget to education.
TPF core committee member and former IAS officer M. Champalal alleged that governments wanted to maintain the status quo in the education system and were not willing to address the problems.
Former IAS officer Akunuri Murali questioned why governments could extend RTC bus services, ration distribution and electricity to interior villages but had failed to provide quality education facilities there. He alleged that the neglect was deliberate and called for a civil society based on rational thinking, scientific temperament and logic.
Another member, Rubina Mazher, said providing quality education was the government’s responsibility and that education was a constitutional right.
The TPF members interacted with villagers and schoolchildren at Malkapur and explained their proposed Telangana Public School system. They cited a school built at a cost of ₹12 crore at Arutla in Ranga Reddy district as an example.
Other TPF core committee members, including Prof. Padmaja Shaw, Srujana Yadav, P. Shankar, Dr Jagadeeshwar, Muppuri Kumaranna, Nikhil Vijayakrishna and Palakuri Ashok Kumar, also spoke.
