TPCC Says BJP-BRS Share Anti-Dalit Agenda

Congress alleges BJP and BRS share an anti-Dalit agenda and urges Dalit leaders and weaker sections to unite with the party for social justice.

Kamareddy district Congress incharge spokesperson Zaheer Akhtar on Sunday alleged that the BJP and BRS had a common agenda of suppressing Dalits and weaker sections and urged people to unite with the Congress for social justice.

Addressing a media conference at the Kamareddy Congress office, Akhtar alleged that the two parties, despite having different names, followed similar policies towards Dalits. He cited the alleged “purification” of a place after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s visit by BJP-RSS workers as evidence of their “Manuwadi mindset".

He also accused BRS leaders Tata Madhu and Naveen Kumar Reddy of using unparliamentary language against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, a Dalit leader. Such remarks, he said, amounted to disrespecting the constitutional office of the Speaker.

Questioning the BRS’s record on Dalit welfare, Akhtar asked what happened to K. Chandrashekar Rao’s promise of making a Dalit the Chief Minister and providing three acres of land to every Dalit family. He also questioned whether the Dalit Bandhu scheme had benefited all eligible families equally.

He appealed to Dalit leaders in the BJP and BRS to join the Congress and called upon intellectuals, students and youth to oppose communal and divisive politics.
