Top Maoist Leader Narahari Surrenders Before Telangana Police
Reliable sources said that Narahari surrendered because of health issues

HYDERABAD: In a significant setback to the Maoists, central committee member Pasunuri Narahari and his wife Medara Danamma, a state committee member, surrendered to director‑general of police C.V. Anand here on Tuesday. Police said Narahari’s surrender left the Maoists’ eastern regional bureau on the verge of collapse. Narahari carried a reward of ₹25 lakh, and Danamma ₹25 lakh; they surrendered with their weapons.
Only three active underground cadres from Telangana remain in Maoist formations outside the state. They are central committee member Muppala Laxman Rao alias Ganapathi, his wife Jade Ratna Bai alias Sujatha, and Vartha Shekhar alias Mangthu, the last two being state committee members.
“I again appeal on behalf of the Telangana government and the Chief Minister to the remaining three active cadres from Telangana to lay down arms, join the mainstream, and obtain benefits of the government’s policy of surrender and rehabilitation,” Anand urged at the ceremony. The reward money was handed over to the couple through demand drafts, he said.
Anand added that the couple will receive further benefits under the state’s rehabilitation policy. Health cards for all cadres who surrendered between 2024 and 2026 are being processed and will be issued shortly, ensuring medical care and dignity in rebuilding their lives.
He noted that the recovery of firearms from Maoist cadres underscored the steady decline of the organisation. “The outstanding achievements of Telangana Police in 2026 through TG‑SIB demonstrated exceptional commitment and strategic effectiveness in countering Left Wing Extremism,” Anand said.
During 2026, a total of 264 underground Maoist cadres had surrendered in Telangana, including three central committee members, 11 state committee members, one regional committee member, 24 divisional secretaries, and 131 party members. In addition, 238 firearms have been recovered this year alone, marking a significant depletion of the group’s armed strength.
Anand said the efforts of the Greyhounds and district police, led by the Special Intelligence Branch, mark a decisive turning point in the fight against extremism. The surrender of senior cadres earlier this year has already pushed Maoism to its last stage of survival.
Narahari, 64, a native of Somidi in Hanamkonda’s Kazipet mandal worked as the Bihar-Jharkhand special area committee secretary. He completed his schooling from the government schools at Somidi and Kazipet, discontinued his degree in the first year due to his association with the Radical Students Union (RSU), Anand said. Narahari became a part of the Kunta dalam in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. In 1988, Narahari married Danamma of Gamalapadu in Dachepally mandal, Guntur district.
Narahari joined as an underground dalam member in 1982 and made his way to the central committee in 2017. He was known for his expertise in firearms, and manufacturing rockets and booby traps, He also imparted training to Maoist cadres in weapons production, repair, and maintenance, while handling technical and organizational roles.
Danamma dropped out in Class 7. Working her way up the ranks, from 2023 she worked in the Bihar-Jharkhand Special area committee’s technical department team.
