Hyderabad:A four‑storeyed building raised on less than 50 square yards at Gachibowli’s Gopanapally dangerously tilted to one side on Friday, creating panic in the locality. The structure, allegedly built on a 12‑foot width and 35‑foot length, stood four storeys high with extremely narrow construction at NTR Nagar.
Residents said the tilt occurred early in the morning. “I heard some noise outside at 8 am and saw the building leaning. I thought it was going to collapse. It was very frightening,” said Sunitha, a local resident.
On receiving information, officials from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), HYDRAA and local police rushed to the spot to assess the situation. All occupants of the building, along with residents of a co‑living PG behind it and neighbouring houses, were evacuated.
Locals claimed that vibrations from an open borewell connection in an adjacent hut, coupled with unstable structural design and multiple floors raised on a narrow plot, may have caused the tilt. “The borewell creates a lot of vibration. With the building being so tall on less than 50 sq. yds., the vibration might have tilted it,” said Syed Khadeer, another resident.
CMC officials said demolition of the unsafe structure had been initiated as a precautionary measure. “CMC will have no tolerance for unauthorised and illegal constructions that compromise public safety,” the corporation stated.
The civic body continued its drive against illegal buildings on Friday, identifying 13 unauthorised constructions, issuing notices to two structures and demolishing 14 — six in Quthbullapur zone, four in Kukatpally zone and four in Serilingampally zone.
