Departing from traditional customs, Hanumanthu’s family members, along with leaders of civil liberties organisations, jointly lit the funeral pyre at an agricultural field owned by the family in the village: Reports

NALGONDA: The funeral rites of slain CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member CPI (Maoist) leader Paka Hanumanthu were held at his native village, Pullemla, in Chandur mandal of Nalgonda district on Sunday evening.
Departing from traditional customs, Hanumanthu’s family members, along with leaders of civil liberties organisations, jointly lit the funeral pyre at an agricultural field owned by the family in the village.
The body was brought to Pullemla from Odisha by family members on Monday morning and kept at his residence for public viewing. Several people aligned with Communist ideology, leaders of civil rights groups, and representatives of various political parties paid their last respects. Some participants in the funeral procession carried flags without any symbols. The village echoed with slogans of “Hanumanthu Amar Rahe” during the procession.
Civil Liberties Committee president Gaddam Laxman alleged that the police imposed several restrictions on the funeral rites, including a ban on the use of sound systems. As a precautionary measure, a large contingent of police personnel was deployed in the village.
Among those who attended the funeral were Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham, BRS leaders Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, Cheruku Sudhakar, Kancherla Bhupal Reddy, and people’s singer Vemula Pushpa.
