Tiger Movement Sparks Panic in Nizamabad-Kamareddy Area

To track the animal, forest officials from Hyderabad and the erstwhile Adilabad district have camped in Kamareddy district

NIZAMABAD: Tiger movement in the undivided Nizamabad district has triggered concern among residents, particularly farmers living near forest areas. Over the past few days, sightings and signs of tiger movement in Machareddy, Palwancha, Bhiknoor and Domakonda mandals have created panic.

To track the animal, forest officials from Hyderabad and the erstwhile Adilabad district have camped in Kamareddy district. Forest experts combed deep forest areas and confirmed the presence of a tiger on Thursday.

Meanwhile, two forest department teams have been conducting village-level awareness meetings on a war footing in Kamareddy district to caution residents about tiger movement. After nearly four decades, tiger presence was reported in the Nizamabad-Kamareddy region in July last year and has resurfaced now. The tiger has reportedly attacked cows and calves in Ambharipet, Pedda Mallareddy, Sangameshwar and Isaipet villages. In Ambharipet alone, cattle were attacked three times within a week.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kamareddy divisional forest officer Ramakrishna said all precautionary measures were being taken to prevent human-wildlife conflict. Forest teams directly spotted the tiger in a deep forest area on Thursday, but it disappeared before photographs could be taken, he said. Higher forest officials have been informed about the tiger movement in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. He also urged villagers living near forest areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Kamareddy district forest officer B. Nikitha and other officials are touring forest areas to assess the impact of the tiger’s movement. The department has also installed CCTV cameras at various locations, and further action will be taken based on footage obtained. Officials recalled that during the previous tiger movement in July, four farmers were arrested for attacking wild animals. Villagers also reported the presence of hunters laying nets in forest areas, with some teams allegedly arriving from Hyderabad in recent weeks.
