Thousands Participate in a Rally of Khammam Neurosurgeon Jagadeesh Babu
Dr K. Narayana Rao, former member of IMA, Khammam, said the body of Dr Babu was taken to his native place, Sankuvarigunta in Andhra Pradesh by Sunday late evening, where the last rites were performed on Monday evening.
Hyderabad:Nearly 10,000 people participated in a rally from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Khammam, to Mamata Medical College to pay tribute to neurosurgeon Dr K. Jagadeesh Babu, who died in a car crash on Sunday. His body was kept at Mamata Medical College until the evening of Sunday.
Dr K. Narayana Rao, former member of IMA, Khammam, said the body of Dr Babu was taken to his native place, Sankuvarigunta in Andhra Pradesh by Sunday late evening, where the last rites were performed on Monday evening.
Dr Babu served as secretary of IMA Khammam from 2023 to 2025. Dr Rao said Dr Babu came from a financially poor background and regularly helped people who approached him for medical assistance. “Serious cases were usually referred to him,” he said.
Dr Y. Vamsi Krishna, head of the department of neurosurgery at Nims, said Dr Babu was also a compassionate physician, teacher and leader who cared deeply for his patients. “He made a significant contribution to neurosurgery and to the people of the region. His passing leaves a deep void in the medical community,” Dr Vamsi Krishna said.
He recalled meeting Dr Babu at the State Neurophysicians and Neurosurgeons Conference held in Khammam last year, which he had organised. The conference was successful, but what stood out was the affection and respect shown to him by people, he said.
Another doctor said the warmth with which Dr Babu was received by patients and colleagues reflected the relationship he had built with the community over the years. His popularity, the doctor said, came from the way he interacted with people, cared for patients and remained accessible to those seeking treatment.
