Those responsible for Kancha Gachibowli destruction will be punished: Centre

The Union Environment Minister was responding to a supplementary question during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha from BRS MP V Ravidchandra who said hundreds of trees were being felled and wildlife was being destroyed in Kancha Gachibowli

HYDERABAD: Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav on Thursday said “we will take action on those responsible” for the uprooting of trees and destruction of the environment in the 400 acres of Kancha Gachibowli land.

Yadav said “an unfortunate incident happened in Hyderabad. I did not understand what this enmity with trees is and the need to set up lights and go in at night with a large number of bulldozers and bring down 400 trees. There are pictures of peacocks and deer in the area. This issue was raised yesterday and a notice has been sent to the Chief Secretary (of Telangana) for a factual report. We will take action on those responsible.”

The Union Environment Minister was responding to a supplementary question during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha from BRS MP V Ravidchandra who said hundreds of trees were being felled and wildlife was being destroyed in Kancha Gachibowli. He said he was requesting that the trees and wildlife in the area be saved, and as he was speaking, Congress MPs could be heard objecting to Ravichandra saying that the supplementary had nothing to do with the subject of the original question the Minister had replied to earlier. However, Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar said if a question pertains to the ministry which is responding to questions, then he will allow such a supplementary to be asked.
