Third Railway Line Between Kazipet and Vijayawada Ready for Operations
Construction of the third line on the Kazipet-Mahabubabad section has been completed, allowing trial runs to be conducted on the additional track.
Kazipet: The 219-km-long third railway line between Kazipet and Vijayawada has been opened for trial operations, with test runs conducted on Monday and Tuesday.
The additional line is expected to provide greater operational flexibility on the Grand Trunk railway route between New Delhi and Chennai, where the existing two lines are handling heavy passenger and freight traffic.
Work on the third line was taken up about a decade ago to ease congestion and improve train operations on the major north-south railway corridor.

Railway officials said the new line would help reduce delays and facilitate the operation of trains according to schedule. Passengers travelling through Kazipet and Mahabubabad and freight trains using the route are expected to benefit from the additional line.
Railway sources said the trial runs had been completed successfully and the results communicated to the Railway Board. Regular train operations on the third line will commence after clearance from the Board.
