Nirmal: A major theft has been reported at the historic Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple in Telangana's Nirmal district, raising concerns over security at one of the state's most revered pilgrimage sites.
According to reports, unidentified thieves broke open the doors of the Mahakali Devi temple located within the temple complex and decamped with a silver crown and the temple hundi (donation box). The theft allegedly occurred despite six staff members being on night duty at the time of the incident.
Temple authorities discovered the burglary and alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered, and officers are examining CCTV footage from the temple premises and surrounding areas to identify the culprits.
Police have intensified their probe to determine how the thieves managed to enter the shrine and escape with the valuables unnoticed. Further investigation is underway.
