THDA Seeks MLHP Eligibility for AYUSH Graduates
He said the current MLHP framework does not adequately recognise their contribution, leading to underutilisation of a trained workforce that could support the primary healthcare system.

Hyderabad:The Telangana Homoeopathic Doctors Association (THDA) has urged the Centre to include qualified Homeopathy, Unani and Naturopathy graduates in the eligibility criteria for mid‑level health provider (MLHP) posts, saying the move would strengthen primary healthcare services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
In a representation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, THDA president Dr Chinukani Shiva Prasad said graduates from these AYUSH streams undergo recognised professional education and clinical training and have contributed to preventive, promotive and community healthcare across the country, especially in rural, tribal and remote regions.
He said the current MLHP framework does not adequately recognise their contribution, leading to underutilisation of a trained workforce that could support the primary healthcare system. “Extending eligibility would help address shortages of healthcare personnel, improve outreach, strengthen delivery and ensure equitable opportunities among healthcare professionals,” he said.
THDA urged the Union government to review the MLHP criteria, constitute an expert committee to examine the role of AYUSH graduates in primary healthcare, extend eligibility to suitably qualified graduates, and issue guidelines to ensure fair opportunities. It also called for policy measures to better utilise AYUSH professionals in strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure and advancing universal healthcare.
