TGUTF Plea For Relief To TET Non-Qualified Teachers

He urged the Centre to come out with a measure to provide relief to these teachers.

Nalgonda:Telangana State United Teachers’ Federation (TGUTF) state president Chava Ravi on Sunday urged the Centre to find alternative measures to provide relief to 25 lakh teachers who were not qualified in the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).

Speaking at the two-day UTF meeting of Nalgonda district at Kattangur on November 1, he reminded that the Supreme Court, in its verdict, mandated that government teachers appointed after August 23, 2010, must be qualified in TET. There are 25 lakh TET non-qualified government teachers in the country. He urged the Centre to come out with a measure to provide relief to these teachers.

He deplored that GO No. 25 brought by the Telangana government for rationalisation of teacher posts and staff of government, Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad schools based on student enrolment had become a curse for primary education in the state. He strongly opposed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s instruction for closure of government primary schools with low student strength.

Former teachers’ MLC Alugubelli Narsi Reddy said teachers alone should not be blamed for the lack of student strength in government schools. He underlined the need for united efforts by teachers, officials and elected representatives to improve enrolment in 12,000 government schools that have fewer than six students. He added that new schools were not being set up by the state government in rapidly growing urban areas. He cautioned that closure of government schools on the pretext of low enrolment would deprive rural people of access to education.
