Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has introduced a new policy aimed at enhancing passenger safety by restricting drivers from carrying mobile phones while on duty. The move follows concerns over accidents caused by drivers speaking on phones during trips.
As part of the initiative, drivers will be required to switch off their cellphones and deposit them with the depot security officer before duty. Phones can be collected after completing the shift. To address emergencies or communication from families, each depot will provide a dedicated contact number, through which information will be relayed to drivers via bus conductors.
The scheme will be implemented on a pilot basis in one depot from each of the corporation’s 11 regions: Farooqnagar (Hyderabad), Kukatpally (Secunderabad), Kollapur (Mahabubnagar), Sangareddy (Medak), Miryalaguda (Nalgonda), Vikarabad (Ranga Reddy), Utnoor (Adilabad), Jagityala (Karimnagar), Khammam (Khammam), Kamareddy (Nizamabad), and Parakala (Warangal). Based on the results, it will be expanded to all depots in a phased manner.
