TGSPDCL Unveils GIS-Based TGNMS for Smarter Power Management
The GIS-based digital platform integrates all power distribution assets into a single system, enabling real-time monitoring, analysis, and management of power outages across the network
HYDERABAD: The southern discom said it had completed the first phase of GIS mapping in the Hyderabad metro zone and work on the second phase was underway in the Rangareddy and Medchal zones. After this, the entire TGSPDCL network is expected to be brought on the platform.
The Hyderabad metro zone comprises 27 extra high tension substations, 156- 33/11 LV substations, 266 33-KV feeders and 988 11-KV feeders.
Nearly one crore consumer service connections were being linked to their respective distribution transformers, enabling faster identification of complaint locations, outage causes and affected consumers. The system will also help call centre staff give precise updates on whether a disruption is due to a (distribution transformer) DTR fault, feeder fault or substation issue.
The GIS-based Network Monitoring System (TGNMS) of the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) is aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and speed in power distribution services.
Developed under the supervision of TGSPDCL chairman and managing director Jitesh V. Patil, with support from director (projects and IT) V. Shivaji, the platform integrates power distribution assets into a single digital system for real-time monitoring and outage management.
The discom said the TGNMS will reduce outage restoration time, improve grievance redressal, speed up new service connections and support scientific network planning. Field staff will be able to access GIS-based data on mobile devices, helping them locate faults faster and carry out repairs more efficiently.
The utility said the platform will also create a foundation for future technologies such as Smart Grid, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) and predictive maintenance. TGSPDCL described TGNMS as a landmark initiative aimed at delivering reliable, uninterrupted and quality power supply to consumers across the state.
