TGSPDCL Unveils GIS-Based TGNMS for Smarter Power Management
The GIS-based digital platform integrates all power distribution assets into a single system, enabling real-time monitoring, analysis, and management of power outages across the network

Hyderabad: Telangana government is accelerating digital reforms in the power sector. With the objective of providing consumers with transparent, reliable, and efficient power services, TGSPDCL is extensively leveraging modern technology.
As part of this initiative, TGSPDCL has developed an in-house GIS-based application -, TGNMS (TGSPDCL GIS Network Monitoring System), under the supervision of Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil.
The GIS-based digital platform integrates all power distribution assets into a single system, enabling real-time monitoring, analysis, and management of power outages across the network.
The GIS mapping is currently being carried out across the Hyderabad CURE Region using a mobile application for 33 kV and 11 kV lines, 33/11 kV substations, Distribution Transformers (DTRs), RMUs, AB Switches, Sectionalizers, Auto Reclosers, Fault Passage Indicators (FPIs), and other network assets.
In the first phase, GIS mapping has been successfully completed for 27 EHT Substations, 156 Nos. of 33/11 kV Substations, 266 Nos. of 33 kV Feeders and 988 Nos. of 11 kV Feeders.
The second phase of GIS mapping is currently in progress in the Rangareddy and Medchal Zones. The network mapping across the CURE Region is expected to be completed shortly, following which the entire TGSPDCL distribution network across the State will be integrated into the GIS platform.
As part of the project, nearly one crore consumer service connections are being linked to their respective Distribution Transformers (DTRs). This enables accurate identification of consumer complaint locations, quick analysis of outage causes, and real-time assessment of affected consumers and areas.
With the implementation of TGNMS, consumer complaint locations can be instantly identified on GIS maps, enabling faster fault detection and quicker restoration of power supply.
The Call Centre personnel will be able to provide consumers with accurate information on whether the outage is due to a DTR fault, an 11 kV feeder fault, or a substation issue.
Officials can instantly assess the number of affected consumers and the impacted areas whenever a feeder or transformer fault occurs, facilitating faster response and restoration. The system also enhances transparency in grievance redressal while significantly reducing outage restoration time. It further enables faster release of new service connections and improved maintenance services.
The TGNMS platform provides a unified digital platform for real-time monitoring of the entire power distribution network. Continuous analysis of network performance helps identify faults proactively, reduce technical losses, facilitate scientific network planning and expansion, improve outage management, and enhance service quality through data-driven decision-making.
The system provides field staff with accurate GIS-based information about the power network through mobile devices. This enables quicker fault identification, faster repair works, reduced field inspection time, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced safety. Mobile-based digital maps significantly improve field operations, enabling employees to deliver faster and better services to consumers.
