TGPCB Recommends Closure Of Two RMC Plants Over Pollution Violations

The recommendations followed complaints of air pollution from construction activities in and around Nanakramguda and Kokapet.

Hyderabad:The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has recommended closure of two captive ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants in Nanakramguda and Kokapet for operating without the mandatory consent for operation. The Board said it would also initiate action against construction projects in the two areas over environmental compliance violations following complaints of air pollution.

At a review meeting on Saturday, a task force committee examined the environmental compliance status of 19 construction projects in the two areas in the presence of their representatives.

The committee recommended environmental compensation for projects found to have major violations and forfeiture of bank guarantees furnished by projects with minor violations. It also recommended directing non-compliant construction projects to rectify the violations within 10 days.

The recommendations followed complaints of air pollution from construction activities in and around Nanakramguda and Kokapet. The Board has constituted rolling task force teams to inspect construction sites, assess compliance with environmental requirements and verify the air pollution control measures in place.

Based on the committee’s recommendations, the TGPCB will issue orders for environmental compensation, initiate the forfeiture of bank guarantees and direct non-compliant projects to complete corrective measures within the stipulated period. The proposed closure orders against the two RMC plants are part of the Board’s intensified inspections and monitoring in response to complaints of air pollution in the rapidly developing areas.
