TGHRC Takes Suo-Motu Cognizance of ST Girls Hostel Food Poisoning
At least 27 girl students reportedly fell ill after consuming contaminated food
Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), headed by Chairperson Dr. Justice Shameem Akther has taken suo-motu cognizance of a news report published in a vernacular news daily regarding the alleged food poisoning incident at the ST Girls Hostel at Wardhannapet in Warangal district.
At least 27 girl students reportedly fell ill after consuming contaminated food. Observing that the allegations raise serious concerns relating to the health, safety, nutrition and welfare of students residing in a government-run welfare hostel and prima facie involve issues affecting their human rights, the Commission has called for a detailed report from the district Collector.
The Commission sought the report on the circumstances leading to the incident, the number and present health condition of the affected students, the medical treatment provided, the findings of the enquiry regarding food quality, hygiene and sanitation in the hostel.
The action taken against those found responsible, if any, and the preventive and remedial measures taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents should be provide in the report. The matter has been posted to September 7 for submission of the report.
