TGFDC India’s First to Get FSC Certification

Over the past three years, TGFDC sold 427,922 tonnes of eucalyptus wood and 7.35 million culms of long bamboo

Hyderabad: The Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) has become the first public sector organisation in India to secure Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, earning international recognition for its responsible forest management practices.

The certification covers 32,951.39 hectares of TGFDC plantations across Kagaznagar, Mulugu, Medak, Rangareddy, Kothagudem, Paloncha, and Sathupalli districts. These plantations, comprising eucalyptus, bamboo, and jamun (Indian blackberry) trees, now produce FSC-certified roundwood logs, natural bamboo, and jamun nuts that meet rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards.

“With FSC certification, our products command higher trust in domestic and international markets,” said a TGFDC spokesperson. “This milestone reflects our commitment to sustainable forestry and rural livelihoods.”

Over the past three years, TGFDC sold 427,922 tonnes of eucalyptus wood and 7.35 million culms of long bamboo. Since achieving FSC status, the corporation has realised an additional ₹4.49 crore in revenue and saved ₹2.54 crore in operational costs compared to previous years.
