Telangana To Provide Irrigation Facility To Every Acre Of Cultivable Land: Bhatti

Nalgonda: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said the state government has adopted a plan to complete all pending irrigation projects to provide irrigation facilities to every cultivable area in Telangana.

Hoisting the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations held at the Police Parade Ground in Khammam, he said the state government has taken up new irrigation projects in addition to completing all pending ones. He asserted that Telangana would not compromise on its rightful share of the Krishna and Godavari River waters and is working with a strategic plan to secure permanent rights over them.

He recalled that the Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme was taken up by the state government at a cost of ₹630 crore to stabilise 33,000 acres of area under irrigation in Zone-III of the Nagarjunasagar Project in Madhira Assembly constituency. The Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme would create 3,28,853 acres of new area under irrigation in Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts. Completion of the Manchukonda Lift Irrigation Scheme in Raghunathapalem mandal would add 455 acres of new ayacut and stabilise 1,957 acres. The Munneru-Sitarama LIS link canal was also sanctioned by the state government at a cost of ₹107.65 crore, he added.

Stating that the Congress government is committed to women’s empowerment, he said sand reach management has been entrusted to women’s groups. Under the Indira Solar Girijana Vikasam Scheme, 27,447 acres belonging to 11,785 tribal farmers in the district will be developed over the next three years. For uninterrupted power supply, automation works are being taken up as a pilot project in 38 substations, and 22 villages in Bonakal mandal have been selected under the Model Solar Village Scheme, he said.

He noted that the Congress government in Telangana is the only one in the country supplying fine rice to ration card holders under the Public Distribution System. The state government has also begun distributing new ration cards to all eligible families in the state.

On strengthening government hospitals, he pointed out that CT scan, ultrasound scan, 2D echo, and 20 ventilators have been made available at Khammam district hospital. Construction of a building for the Government Medical College in Khammam is underway at a cost of ₹130 crore, he added.
