TG SAFE Warns Against Prescribing Unapproved Weight-Loss Drugs
Tesamorelin, BPC-157 and GHK-Cu, which were also being sourced through unregulated channels: TG SAFE

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) warned against drugs such as Retatrutide and Orforglipron, which were being offered for weight-loss treatment by certain medical practitioners in the state, despite lacking the required regulatory approval for the intended use.
It has warned the public against procuring and self-administering unapproved weight-loss drugs and experimental peptide products, sold through unregulated online platforms and social media channels.
The authority has also cautioned registered medical practitioners against procuring, prescribing or administering such products to patients for weight loss or other conditions, warning that violations of regulatory requirements would invite stringent action, under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the rules made under it.
TG SAFE said Tesamorelin, BPC-157 and GHK-Cu, which were also being sourced through unregulated channels, had not undergone the requisite regulatory assessment to establish their safety, efficacy and quality for the intended uses.
It cautioned that products sold online as research chemicals, sometimes labelled “Not for Human Consumption” were being supplied with instructions for self-administration. Their identity, purity and quality could not be assured, while injectable products might not have undergone adequate testing for sterility and bacterial endotoxins.
TG SAFE warned that using such products could cause serious adverse reactions, infections, life-threatening complications and even death. It also cautioned that online platforms and social media channels, including Telegram, could be used to market counterfeit or mislabeled products.
