TG SAFE Shuts PG Hostel, Suspends License of Five Food Establishments in Kukatpally
Inspections uncover pest infestations, spoiled food and widespread hygiene violations

Hyderabad: The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has closed a men’s PG hostel and suspended the FSSAI licences of five food establishments following inspections in the Kukatpally area. Ten enforcement teams, comprising food safety officers and police personnel, inspected 20 establishments, including restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, messes and hostels, as part of a special drive.
Officials found several food safety violations, including the use of spoiled or contaminated meat and vegetables, cockroach, housefly and rodent infestation, unhygienic premises, poor maintenance of records and unclean refrigerators. In some establishments, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was not properly segregated or labelled. Expired food products, pest-infested food articles and poor hygiene among food handlers were also reported. The teams lifted 20 food samples on suspicion of adulteration. Spoiled vegetables and raw materials, including groundnuts, flour and red chillies infested with insects or pests, were discarded on the spot.
GVK New Luxury PG Men’s Hostel, found operating without an FSSAI licence or registration and in violation of food safety norms, was closed.
TG SAFE will issue improvement notices to Sri Mahalaxmi Kendra at Gummadi Foods, KS Bakers, Lakshmi Vengamamba Hostel, Padmavathi Delux Mess, Mehfil Restaurant and Sree Harsha Delux Mess. These establishments will be reinspected to check compliance.
Show-cause notices will be issued to Paradise Food Court, Chaitanya Food Court, Bhulakshmi Mess and Godavari Mithai, with further action proposed for imposing penalties.
The FSSAI license of five establishments were suspended, with instructions to stop business operations. These include Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel, Hotel Sitara Grand, Bake Max Foods Pvt Ltd (Brown Bear Manufacturing Unit) and Mandi King Arabian Restaurant. Violations at these establishments included heavy cockroach and rodent infestation, pest-infested and expired food articles, fungal contamination, unhygienic premises, poor refrigerator maintenance, improper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food and spoiled vegetables.
