TG Medical Council Cracks Down on Illegal Eye Clinics in Miryalaguda
TGMC officials said criminal cases will be registered under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act and Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration (TMPR) Act against technicians and fake practitioners.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has initiated action against eight illegal practices in private eye hospitals in Miryalaguda, exposing a network of unqualified practitioners and hospitals operating without certified ophthalmologists.
Acting on the directions of TGMC chairman Dr K. Mahesh Kumar and registrar Dr D. Lalaiah Kumar, a special inspection team conducted surprise raids.
Officials found that none of the eight units had a qualified ophthalmologist on duty. Hospitals had obtained permissions in the names of certified eye specialists but were being run by ophthalmology and optometry technicians. In several cases, these technicians were found prescribing medicines beyond their scope, ordering diagnostic tests and even conducting eye surgeries, posing a serious threat to public health.
At Sri Venkateswara Eye Hospital and Shalini Eye Hospital, officials found that Dr M. Bharat Bhushan and Dr K. Venkateswarlu, both with MBBS degrees, projecting themselves as MS (Ophthalmology) specialists. Investigations revealed that the approved ophthalmologists linked to these hospitals were practising in Hyderabad and other cities.
In another case, A Koteshwar Rao, who runs Komala Medical and General Store, was found operating an illegal first-aid centre with inpatient beds, administering antibiotics and steroid injections without any medical qualifications. Another fake practitioner, Munir, who runs Friends First Aid Centre, reportedly fled after learning about the inspections.
TGMC officials said criminal cases will be registered under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act and Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration (TMPR) Act against technicians and fake practitioners. Notices will also be issued to ophthalmologists Dr Srikumar, Dr Prabhu Chaitanya, Dr Basheer and Dr Amar for allegedly running hospitals through technicians.
Show-cause notices will be served to Dr Bharat Bhushan and Dr Venkateswarlu, and if their explanations are unsatisfactory, their MBBS licences may be suspended following an inquiry by the Medical Ethics and Malpractices Committee, said TGMC public relations committee chairman Dr V. Naresh Kumar. The Council will also recommend action to the district collector.
