A Saudi court subsequently found Shravan guilty and ordered him to pay 3.30 lakh Saudi riyals as blood money to the victims’ family. The amount is approximately ?84 lakh. His family said he can be released only after the amount is paid. Unable to raise the money, Shravan’s elderly parents have been working as daily-wage labourers.

His wife Mamata, who is caring for their infant child, has approached elected representatives seeking government intervention. She submitted petitions to Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and MPs and MLCs from Nizamabad and Jagtial districts. She also raised the issue at the Pravasi Prajavani programme in Hyderabad. Mamata appealed to the state government, public representatives and philanthropists to help arrange the amount and secure her husband’s release from Saudi Arabia.
