New Bone Regeneration Tech Offers Hope for Diabetic Foot Patients in India

DC Correspondent

HYDERABAD: International experts have introduced an advanced bone regeneration solution aimed at treating diabetic foot complications and complex bone infections, offering new hope for reducing amputations and improving recovery outcomes.

Participating in a live surgical session at a private hospital in Jubilee Hills, Prof. Venu Kavarthapu, consultant orthopedic surgeon at King's College Hospital, London, said the technique enabled infection control and bone regeneration in a single procedure. "In high-risk cases, especially among diabetic patients, this approach can significantly reduce complications, avoid repeat surgeries, and improve long-term outcomes," he noted.

Fergus MacLeod, general manager and executive vice-president, Europe and rest of world at Bone support AB, described the collaboration as a major step in bringing globally proven technology to India. He said the solution had shown strong clinical outcomes in managing complex bone infections.

India has over 89 million people living with diabetes, with nearly a quarter at risk of developing foot complications, a leading cause of hospitalisation and lower-limb amputations said experts.

The newly introduced solution uses an injectable, antibiotic-eluting bone graft substitute that supports bone healing while controlling infection locally.

Experts said it marks a shift from multi-stage invasive treatments to targeted, single-stage interventions, enabling faster recovery, reduced hospital stays, and better quality of life for patients.

The programme also included clinical training sessions, cadaveric workshops, and academic discussions for multidisciplinary teams to adopt the technology effectively.

Telangana eyes global Aerospace partnership with ₹453-Crore ITP Aero Facility launch

HYDERABAD: Telangana is positioning itself as a strategic partner for global aerospace majors and a key research and development hub, IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Tuesday after laying the foundation stone for a ₹453-crore manufacturing facility by Spain-based ITP Aero-India at Hardware Park (Phase 3) in Shamshabad.

The 10-acre facility will produce critical aircraft engine components, with commercial operations slated to begin next year. It is projected to employ 350 highly skilled professionals initially in precision engineering, advanced manufacturing, and quality control, scaling up to about 600 in the coming years.

Senior ITP Aero executives, including CEO Eva Azoulay, MD Carlos Alzola, vice-president (operations) Valantis Gorono, and India MD Sandeep Sharma, attended the event.

Sridhar Babu outlined a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen the state's aerospace ecosystem beyond component manufacturing. He highlighted Telangana's status as one of India's fastest-growing aerospace and defence hubs, crediting its robust industrial infrastructure and five consecutive 'Best State for Aerospace' awards from the Centre.

Global giants like Boeing, GE Aviation, Safran, Lockheed Martin, and Tata Group already operate in the state, and ITP Aero's entry will boost the global footprint of "Made in Telangana" products, the minister added. The government is also prioritizing next-generation technologies such as drones and satellite communications through investments in infrastructure, innovation, R&D, and skill development.
