Tension In Warangal Over ANM’s Death

The deceased, identified as Gugulothu Chitti, was employed as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at the Narsampet government hospital.

WARANGAL: Tension prevailed after the family members of a 20-year-old woman staged a protest on a national highway, alleging that she was gang-raped and murdered at A.K. Thanda in Rayaparthy mandal of Warangal district on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Gugulothu Chitti, was employed as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at the Narsampet government hospital. She lived in the village with her grandparents, while her parents resided in Hyderabad for livelihood. Her two brothers were working in Madhya Pradesh.

The victim’s family alleged that four local youths had gang-raped Chitti, leading to her death due to excessive bleeding. Accusing the police of negligence, the relatives blocked traffic and demanded immediate arrests. The body was later shifted to the Wardhannapet hospital mortuary.

However, the police strongly refuted the gang-rape allegations, citing preliminary investigation and medical evidence. According to officials, a case was registered based on the family’s complaint, but the post-mortem examination (PME) report confirmed that the cause of death was hanging. Police clarified that the bleeding mentioned by the family was not due to sexual assault or physical violence.

Officials further stated that as religious rituals were being performed in the house, certain materials had attracted ants and rodents. The bleeding was reportedly caused by post-mortem pest activity over nearly 24 hours before the body was discovered.

While acknowledging that four youths had allegedly been stalking her, police maintained that no sexual assault had taken place. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the death and to verify the allegations of harassment.
