Tension Grips Mulugu As Cong, BRS Call for Protests
Both parties to hold rallies on July 7 amid mutual allegations; police ban in force

Warangal: Tension has arisen in Mulugu district as both the opposition BRS and the ruling Congress parties prepare to hold protests at the district headquarters on Monday. The BRS, headed by former zilla parishad chairperson Bade Nagajyothi and district president Kakulamarry Lakshman Babu, has declared a ‘Praja Nirasana Karyakramam’ scheduled for July 7. Prominent leaders from the erstwhile Warangal district are expected to participate in the protest to draw attention to alleged corruption and misconduct by Congress leaders.
In response, the Congress party, led by district committee president Paidala Ashok Patel, has also planned a ‘Maha Nirasana Sabha’ under the theme 'Let’s inform the people about what occurred in Mulugu during the BRS's ten-year rule.’ Prominent Congress leaders will be present at the event on the same day, Monday.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Bade Nagajyothi stated that the BRS protest will focus on concerns such as the state government's failures, unmet promises, enforcement of the city police act to suppress opposition voices, and attacks on innocent tribal individuals, farmers, journalists, as well as the unwarranted legal actions against social media activists. “The party will highlight the ruling party's wrongdoings and apply pressure on the government. The protest will continue regardless of any challenges,” she emphasised.
Congress DCC president Ashok Patel also spoke to the Deccan Chronicle, expressing that they are aware of the BRS leader’s involvement in corruption, illegal sand mining, land grabbing, and the mistreatment of dalits and tribals during their time in power. The Congress intends to bring these issues and the failures of the previous BRS government to the public's attention during the Maha Nirasana Sabha.
Amid escalating allegations between both sides, a climate of tension prevails, leading to concern among the people as Monday marks the beginning of the week, and many will be occupied with their regular activities.
DSP Shabarish informed the DC that a city police order has been implemented throughout the district from July 4 to July 31 to ensure public order. This directive prohibits demonstrations, roadblocks, protests, rallies, public meetings, and similar gatherings, with violators subject to detention.
He further stated that if any political party or community organisation intends to hold a protest or sit-in, the leaders of the respective party or group must seek prior approval from the police and conduct the event peacefully at designated locations. At the same time, police authorities are closely monitoring security measures at the district headquarters, as both BRS and Congress parties are planning to mobilise a significant gathering of party members and leaders for the protests. In response, the police are prepared to enhance security to avoid any untoward events.
