Telangana’s Pochampally Ikkat Saris To Make Cannes Red Carpet Debut
“It is not merely a matter of personal pride; it is the pride of every weaver who has spent hundreds of hours at the loom in Pochampally. Our thread has now become a global thread”: Reports

NALGONDA: Pochampally ikkat saris will be showcased at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival in France from May 17 to 22, with Miss Asia International and Ikkat Handlooms ambassador Rashmi Thakur set to walk the red carpet wearing the handwoven textiles.
This marks the first time that Pochampally ikkat saris from Telangana will be displayed at the Cannes red carpet, organisers said.
Expressing satisfaction over the opportunity, Rashmi Thakur said she felt honoured to present Telangana’s 200-year-old weaving tradition on an international platform. “It is not merely a matter of personal pride; it is the pride of every weaver who has spent hundreds of hours at the loom in Pochampally. Our thread has now become a global thread,” she said.
She attributed the opportunity to Pochampally Producer Company Limited (PPCL Weaves), along with tie-and-dye workers and local weavers.
PPCL Weaves founder Thadaka Ramesh said the showcase was expected to enhance international demand for Pochampally ikkat saris. He noted that the Cannes International Film Festival attracts global participation, including representatives from multiple countries and members of the film industry.
Ramesh said five specially designed ikkat saris had been supplied for presentation by Rashmi Thakur at the festival.
