Telangana Will Shift To Clean And Green Vehicles

The state aims for Hyderabad to have the largest electric bus fleet by 2030. By 2047, all passenger transport — from Metro, Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS), to buses — will be ZEV, and 80 per cent of private 2W/3W/4W stock will be ZEV.

Hyderabad: The state government will create a connected, sustainable, and future-ready transport network, with an emphasis on clean mobility (EVs and low-carbon transport); integrated logistics and mass rapid transit development in cities.

According to Telangana's Vision 2047 for transport, Hyderabad will be positioned among the world’s top 10 innovation and investment destinations by 2047, emerging as a global city with over 623 km of Metro Rail, LRTS, BRTS, MMTS, ensuring seamless multimodal transit options.

“A Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mobility system will cut fossil fuel demand by 95 per cent, making every route green and efficient. By 2047, zero emissions will be achieved for all road transport, and aviation will adopt sustainable fuels. Eighty per cent of existing urban routes and all new urban routes will include components of non-motorised transport, ensuring a people-first, low-carbon mobility network and 100 per cent clean mobility transition.”

The state will gradually reduce the sale of petrol and diesel engine vehicles after 2039.

Telangana will deploy high-power charging networks along NH44, NH65, and the ORR. The state will deploy 6,000 public charging stations by 2030 and will establish fast-charging corridors every 20 km by 2047, along with hydrogen refuelling stations connecting highways and industrial routes.

The state will fully electrify priority freight, pharma, cold-chain, and agri routes by 2030, supported by enabled logistics hubs. A global centre for manufacturing and R&D related to EV and energy storage, battery recycling, hydrogen, and fuel cells will be established. Women and marginalised groups will be specially represented.

Hyderabad Metro and feeder services will be expanded, and Hyderabad will be developed as a Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) hub. All cities with populations above 5 lakh will have metro or rapid transit systems, and AI-based traffic management along with integrated real-time multimodal transport platforms, will be deployed.
