Telangana Waqf Board Completes Registration of 70 Pc of Its Properties on Umeed Portal: Azharuddin

Mohammed Ali Shabbir noted that while gazette‑notified Waqf institutions had already been uploaded, the extension would help include many pending properties

Hyderabad: The State Waqf Board has completed registration of over 70 per cent of its properties on the Umeed portal, minorities welfare minister Mohammed Azharuddin said on Tuesday, and hoped that details of the rest could be uploaded within the three-month extension given by the Waqf Tribunal.

Addressing a joint press conference alongside government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TMREIS president Faheem Qureshi, State Haj Committee chairman Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani, minorities welfare secretary B. Shafiullah, and Waqf Board CEO Md Asadullah, Azharuddin stated that 46,480 records had been uploaded out of 63,180.

“Those involved in this tedious task faced significant technical challenges at various levels. The records were scattered across multiple departments, including revenue and endowments. Now that the Tribunal has given us three more months, the remaining records will be uploaded,” Azharuddin affirmed.

Mohammed Ali Shabbir expressed concern that a number of ashoorkhanas, mosques, and other Waqf institutions particularly in rural areas remained unregistered due to delays, legal uncertainties, and apprehensions among caretakers that the government might take over their properties. He noted that while gazette‑notified Waqf institutions had already been uploaded, the extension would help include many pending properties.

The former minister urged the Telangana government and the Waqf Board to launch a fresh, district‑wise outreach campaign to reassure mosque committees and dargah caretakers who continued to fear state intervention. He emphasised the need for physical visits by delegations to clarify that the registration process is intended to safeguard Waqf properties, not threaten them.
